I'm back.

This was an interesting post, Harmony, and thanks for sharing it with us! I never cease to feel flattered and lucky when 'Scopers share here.

I recall when your husband was laid off, but I had frankly possibly not known that it was essentially voluntary. I knew that he had really liked where he worked for a while - I recall your having made reference to his ideal work environment - but it seems that such environments always end up getting consumed by "corporate-ness" *cringes* and eventually devolving to the lowest common denominator. Such seems to have been the case with your hub's employer.

Nevertheless, he seems the type whose curiosity and initiative serves him. In order to go back to school at his age (no offense! ), one has to be directed, curious, confident, and committed. I applaud that in a huge way! And as a further plus, he seems to have the right kind of cognitive process for this endeavor, so it may come naturally for him, which will make learning more of a stimulating challenge than an abhored chore.

And let's not forget you. It takes a lot of courage and commitment for you to "step up to the plate" (I hate baseball analogies ) and hold the fort down while he pursues a challenging, lengthy objective. I really commend you for that... but frankly, I'm not at all surprised and would have predicted it with certainty.

Harmony, curious... has his research suggested that accounting is the most likely prospect for him to secure employment while - or after - the schooling? That's the message that I'm getting from your post. I know there are no guarantees, but I wondered if his commitment to this might secure some placement assistance from the university.

Also, I'm glad you're going to be able to resume volunteering! I know you have that bent, because we have benefited so much from it! What do you think you'll do?

(Cripes... I can't believe that mini-Harmony is getting her own nest!)
